Friday Reads: Children’s Classics

To celebrate the release of the ‘lost’ Beatrix Potter story ‘Kitty in Boots’ we’re revisiting some of our favourite childhood classics…

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter

The first tale featuring Beatrix Potter’s most famous and beloved character, first published 1902. The Peter Rabbit toy was the first soft toy to be patented in 1903. There are now several tv adaptions, with talks of a film in 2018.

Elmer the Patchwork Elephant by David McKee

A colourful story that teaches diversity and acceptance. The sight of Elmer triggers fond memories of colouring in his patches.

There are now more than thirty stories in the Elmer series, as well as a tv series and cuddly Elmers.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

A beautifully illustrated and charming classic that has won numerous awards, become a global bestseller and been translated into over 40 languages.
